WhoIsHostingThis.com helps millions of people make informed decisions about web hosting. There are an enormous number of web hosts, each with different options. Our primary purpose is to help people make the right choice for themselves — in the easiest way possible.
Hosting Reviews and More
There are a variety of ways that we help website owners and would-be website owners. But our specialty is providing hosting reviews from other site owners just like you.
We also provide our own expert reviews. But usually, the thoughtful reviews of longtime hosting users are more helpful in deciding if a site is right for you.
Beyond the Reviews — Way Beyond
Of course, we provide a good deal more than just hosting reviews. We provide a wide range of helpful (And entertaining!) content for website owners. WhoIsHostingThis.com is, after all, a website for website owners by website owners. All of our writers and technicians have their own websites. Most of them have several.
Here's a list of other things that make up WhoIsHostingThis.com:
- Resources for Webmasters: this part of the site contains an enormous amount of content for website owners. It includes everything from articles to videos and infographics to entire ebooks. And the content is broad:
- Web Hosting 101;
- Guides & Tutorials for Webmasters;
- Online Marketing & Social Media;
- Online Guides and Resources;
- Internet Privacy & Safety;
- Student/Teacher Resources;
- Copyright & DMCA;
- Design Tutorials & Assets;
- Bitcoin for Webmasters.
- Coupons: we have good relationships with companies throughout the hosting community. So we are able to offer special coupons for over 50 of the most popular hosts around.
- Blog: we like to think of this as where all the fun is. But it also contains a tremendous amount of useful information.
Our Business Practices
Our goal is simple: to help you find the right hosting company for your website and then use that website to its full potential. But we are also a business — one that is critically dependent upon our user's trust. That's why we don't pull punches and why we are as transparent as possible about our business practices.
To learn more, read our full disclosure, How Is This Site Funded? But if you want the quick answer, just look at the bottom of every page on this site, "Want to know how we're funded? c. 10% of outbound clicks use affiliate links, so we get a referral fee if you buy hosting."
It's because of this that we are scrupulous in providing honest, accurate, relevant, and up-to-date information. If you want to know more, read about our company ethos. But the truth can be stated simply: we are not at all interested in getting you to buy junk or anything else that isn't right for you. WhoIsHostingThis.com is in business for the long haul.
We've been around close to a decade, and we continue on because we work very hard to earn your trust.
Who We Are
WhoIsHostingThis.com is made up of a group of programmers, webmasters, designers, and writers — all computer veterans. We range from the relatively young who grew up with the web to grizzled old-timers who were coding assembly language a decade before the web existed.
Leading this diverse group is Richard Kershaw, the owner of WhoIsHostingThis.com and its parent company, Quality Nonsense Ltd, headquartered in London, United Kingdom.

2007: The Beginning
The original design was pretty basic. Back then, WIHT only offered the "Find a Host" service so the design just had a central search box. Simple and effective.
2008: New Management
In the summer of 2008, WhoIsHostingThis.com was acquired by London-based Quality Nonsense Ltd.
When Quality Nonsense bought WIHT, Richard and the rest of the team had some big ideas on how to make it a better service. It wasn't long before the simple host-check feature was complimented by the following features:
Obviously, all these new features meant the design had to develop — hence the fresh look for the site. It managed to fit in all the new features without looking cluttered or detracting from the central tool.
2009: A Work in Progress
In 2009, we decided it was time for a complete overhaul. Feedback said our users didn't know about a lot of the extra features that were on offer. We wanted to fix that.
This meant another redesign, this time by DesignBuzz.
Several months and lots of serious work later, it was ready to go live just in time for Christmas.
2010: Redesign Launch
The new design launched at the beginning of 2010. The redesign was a labor of love; we were incredibly proud to see that all our hard work paid off and that WhoIsHostingThis.com was now going from strength to strength.
Since those days, WhoIsHostingThis.com has gradually evolved — always looking to improve what we do. Today, the site features over a million words of user written content — and another million words of expert content. And it has paid off with well over 30,000 page views every day.
We're constantly working on the site, so if you find anything wrong or have any feedback, please do get in touch!
