The High Cost of Free Web Hosting

By Justyn on February 26th, 2009 in Beginners, Tips & Tutorials

Free ain’t everything, folks. Money might be tight, but there are a few key points to consider when you think going with a free web hosting service is the best way to cut costs. For example:

Advertising Overload

What did you expect? The “free” web hosts have to make money somehow and posting ads on your site is the most common method of recouping their costs. We see ads across the header of the site or anywhere else the web host darn well pleases.

Is “free” worth the cost of no control (or profits) from ads?

Poor Tech Support

No company can support software or hardware if they’re not making money. Expect “free” web hosts to only offer very limited support through forums or FAQs. Emails to support staff can take days or weeks before you get a response!

Is “free” worth the cost of low-to-no support?

We could go on, but you get the point. Free web hosting actually has a cost. In our experience, free web hosting SUCKS!
