Wednesday the 13th of June was one of those days when 24 hours just isn't enough to get everything done. As if frantically running around all day wasn’t enough my friend Toni called me and said he received some hush-hush info that our project
Skarabej - Museum of old family photographs will receive the World Summit Award 2007 (
WSA) in one of the (many) categories. Since we received this info it was polite that we show up on the awards ceremony.
And so we did. The ceremony itself was a disaster because the main sponsor of the awards (the Croatian government) received one of the awards (or to be more precise they bought it) and instead of some proper refreshments on a very hot day we got some worm strawberries and warm campaign in tiny glasses. But, the gold medal hanging around or necks kept our spirits up. Since a lot of influential
e-people showed up on the event we decided to grab something to eat with some of them.
Chinese duck and pork was the choice and between drinking gallons of water to ease the fire in our mouths Stanislav (founder of
Franticindustries) and me started to talk about some ideas. Every idea I proposed he literally killed saying it was already done and it's not interesting. So finally, it was his turn and the very first thing he said was: "I frequently need to find out what company is hosting a certain site, and I can't". Yea sure, for us geeks that hold CCNA and similar certifications that info isn't hard to get but for the average surfer that data is berried deeper than it should be.
I liked the idea from the very start with one exception. Being a mathematician it bugs me when I can't get my algorithms to perform 100% correct and it was more that obvious that I won't be able to get to a 100% accuracy on this issue. But we all agreed that something around 95% would be good enough and agreed that the development should start right away!
