From their newsletter:

Holiday specials:
Transfer your .com/.net/.org domains to Namecheap for just $6.99 using SWITCH2NC as the coupon. Or use SNOWNEEDLE for a discount on new registrations.

Doesn't say when they expire... but I'm assuming they'll be good until at least the new year.

Hmm I think godaddy is worst! I registered with them. And they deleted my account telling that they have identity problems with me.I wrote to them many times. But they didnt reopened my account and they also didnt deleted my domains so that i was also unable to use those domain by registering them with other registrar.

and i think smallbusiness.yahoo.com is the best registrar.

In my experience, 'mom and pop' organisations are a mistake for your domain registrar. It's simple to get setup as a domain reseller (look at WildWestDomains.com). While I'm sure there are plenty of respectable resellers, the reality is the barriers to entry are so low that there are cowboys too.

I have used GoDaddy for many years and I have been very pleased. I have had to use telephone customer service and found it adequate. They sales team isn't too pushy. They do mention upgrades or extensions, but that is to be expected. There web-based application works well and is constantly being upgraded/improved. They do offer just about every service you can imagine related to domains and their administration. Their prices are middle-of-the-road in my opinion.

Having said that, I do prefer medium sized "Mom and Pop" organizations that are 1)Technically competent 2)Cater to technically competent customers who prefer online self service 3)continually improving and expanding their service offerings. So if you know of any, please give them a mention here.

Probably sound like a broken record on here, but nominate are the best registrars I personally have come across.

Its not the biggest registrar and they may not have the best looking website, but they really do get the job done. If you have any queries, you can just give 'em a bell, and they will sort it straight away. I have always been with these guys from back when we gained a load of domains from a hosting company which went pop.

Hassle free. Honest and fair. Great guys to have a good old chat with too!

With namecheap -- yes you do pay first (you "load" your account with credit), then pay with those credits at checkout. Honestly, I don't mind this at all...still a very quick process. (maybe the fastest domain register I've used).

Ian, so isnt that like paying before you actually purchase?

But NameCheap sounds pretty good. I was going to use godaddy for my new domain, but I guess I can take a look at something else first.
