Hosting4less was founded in 1998 and is owned by 4 Less Communications, Inc., a network consulting family business based in California.
Company and Services
Hosting4less was set up “with customer service in mind”. The company has aimed for a steady but sustainable growth rate over the years with the infrastructure and support expanding at a similar rate to the customer base.
Hosting4less owns its own network which it claims makes it able to charge less than some other hosting companies: bandwidth is purchased in bulk so savings can be passed on. They also boast a number of green credentials built around energy efficient servers and environmentally friendly offices.
Hosting4less offers a range of hosting options, which include a basic package a corporate option and 'FTP hosting', which is used primarily as storage. All accounts are hosted on high performance Unix servers.
There are four basic hosting options: shared web hosting; high bandwidth web hosting; dedicated web hosting and Windows web hosting. Between them, these options are designed to cover all types of users, from the private individual to owners of websites with extremely high traffic.
Hosting4less also offers a range of e-commerce hosting packages that are designed specifically for shopping sites. All these packages include a free Miva Merchant shopping cart and SSL, as well as payment processing support. The company promises 99.9% uptime, leaving a margin for downtime based on essential maintenance or circumstances that are beyond their control. Anything over one hour of downtime in a month will be reimbursed in the following quarter.
There are a number of customer support options with hosting4less and these include phone support (although this is not 24 hour) and specific links and pages relating to the type of hosting package you have. There are also individual guides for FTP and publishing software and an extensive knowledge base.
