I totally agree that writing valuable comments on people’s blog to build backlinks actually works, but comments on nofollow blogs is less prioritized while dofollow blog comments is the best way to improve your blog commenting activity. Almost all blog comments are nofollow. On WordPress, making them follow requires a plugin. I personally hate nofollow links. On my own blog, I have only follow links because I believe that if people are providing me with free content, they deserve to be rewarded. But people do abuse the privilege and I’m considering changing my policy.

However, I don’t think the point in this infographic was to use comments to improve your Google Rank. Rather it was to capture the attention of readers. I know that I’ve gotten many regular readers for my personal blog through thoughtful and sometimes amusing comments. But that’s just part of the strategy.
