I read a lot of reviews on 1&1 Internet and liked them I knew what I was going to get into. When I placed my order in the morning with them it was quick it went through and i was able to upload my files that night. I was really happy with there hosting but was upset to find out that later down the road when i decided to use my 2 free domains that i got when ordering them that if you used one for 10 minutes and needed to change it because of a misspell or didn't fit your needs or placed by accident that you loose that free domain.

After all that passed i was pretty ok with it and was satisfied except when i went to go check out there SSL Certificate that i was going to be charged for clicking the SSL icon you are invoiced for that (you don't even have to hit order is what i was told). When i called them to have them cancel it they said they would and it would be effective immediately (LIE). That was in the end of February 2009.

about a month later i was hit with a 49.00 charge on my pay pal that was not suppose to happen. It later cause a big big misunderstanding and such i had to call my personal bank, pay pal, and 1and1; everyone but 1&1 were on the same track as far as records go but 1and1 said i owed them 49.00 that i did not have. I faxed them all my records for the same answer that i owed them 49.00 that i never got in the first place.

the locked me out of my email, account, and website. this all took place on March 28 2009. i was told that if i didn't pay that they would forward it onto a collection agencies where they would charge me an extra 39.00 on top of 49.00 a week later i decided to pay and called them and was told that they were issuing me a credit and was told they put it on my account which i was kind of shocked by and then was told that i needed to pay 49.00 so i did just to get access to my files so i could switch host.

So here i am out 2 49.00 and was only refunded 1 49.00. In my honest opinion 1&1 was a great host but there billing tactics are horrible and so are there customer support tactics. Overall Report

* What do you wish you'd known before becoming a customer?

See Above

* How have they handled your support queries? Horribly

* What level of technical expertise do their customers need? not major just billing

* How have 1&1 Internet handled any problems?

badly

* What kind of customer is this host suitable for? anyone as long as they are willing to fork money over

* Would you recommend 1&1 Internet to friends? sure but i would definitely warn them

Do not be tempted by the free monthly offers or the odd positive review you might see mentioned. After joining both their shared hosting and dedicated hosting service one thing thats not mentioned initially is you pay £60 for setup so you can ignore the whole "3 months" free tagline they lure you in with. After two server setups at a cost of £120, customer support waiting times of minimum 25 mins and 4 days of waiting for ssl and tls updates on the server (which should come as standard on any managed server) no way of taking payments, loss of earnings and a loss of 48 customers as a result i can honestly say do not waste your time or money on this company.

Every support call you make feels like a call to someone who has no control or ability to help - support calls are simply a way of starting up an internal ticket which does not get answered for days at a time. The server itself isn't as advertised also and lacks speed. If you are in need of a server that can handle traffic, good support and a managed server - this is not the company to get it from.

Terrible support, marginally better service. Not recommended. Tried calling on the telephone, but no response after servers were down again. Facebook, Twitter and email support awful.

I recently have chsnged from a partnership to a Limited company anf have had to change my details with over 50 companies zi deal with.

1and1 make the whole process lenghy and have the worst security procedures i have ever come across, they wanted me to put down on a form all of my baccount access information and the passwords to access my account and send that to them. Now I am no security expert but if that information fell into anybodys hands they would have access to my website and could cause so much damage if it was not caught quickly it could bring down my business, and if it was caught quickly I am not confident that it could be resolved promptly due to the poor support from customer service.

1&1 rocks because it provides one of the best value hosting solutions on the market. Their hosting solutions for Windows and Linux undercut 90% of other hosts.

1&1 have thankfully developed their own frontend administration system to deal with hosting settings and billing. It's easy to use, providing extensive control and is thoroughly documented in Support.

Other hosting companies offer comparatively poor administration systems (either poor quality open source ones, or their own poor quality custom built ones).

1&1 hosting packages include email mailboxes, which are generous in mailbox size: 2gb per mailbox as of 04/2011.

1&1 uptime has been 100% over the last 6 years for most of my sites.

1&1 has a UK telephone support option with excellent technical support even at Level 1 (i.e. the people you talk to first on the phone). Communication is not usually a problem.

1&1 sucks because it is one of the biggest hosting companies and when you make important changes in your control panel — changes that affect a database, for example, or a password change — their systems take quite a while (minutes or even hours) to update.

This is something that is unusual in the market. I would never entrust 1&1 with a business-critical website or with a website that is liable to get high levels of traffic, simply because 1&1 is primarily a web host 'for the masses', and its systems and support can't deal with heavy-duty sites. Overall, I always recommend 1&1 to individuals and small businesses who want a simple, cheap and reliable small interent presence.

I am currently a 1&1 customer and am writing this review after about 6 months of experience with the company. I have their VPS XXL plan, with a few extras, which brings my total to a bit over $40 a month. I thought this was a great deal but, as you will read, the service is a mixed bag.

First, note that I purchased extra HD space as I am hosting some real estate websites and host a LOT of very small pictures. I know that I run about 200GB of space and about 12GB of traffic monthly so nothing too extreme. The purchase process went smoothly and I was up and running within a day.

Managing domains in their control panel is somewhat "cludgy" as they want you to transfer domains to them and load the pages with ads for other services. I just wanted to point my domains, leaving them at my current registrar, and get them running on the new server. This turned out to be a bit tricky though finally, after a message to support and a 3 day wait for a reply, was completed.

The service seems to have pretty good uptime. In the past 6 months I average 1 or so "down" notification a month but then the sites are back up within a few minutes. There have been two occasions of longer outages.

I was told these were Ddos attacks against 1&1 and the sites would be back online shortly. I noted the down times at over 6 hours each time, which is unacceptable. Probably the biggest issue for me was that my server stopped responding one day.

I was finally able to SSH in but could see no messages in the logs to explain the outage. I called support and, after speaking with 3 different people finally got someone to assist me. I was told that I had over 250K files on the server and there is a hard limit.

I explained I had purchased extra space and that was not disclosed but received nothing except a "sorry" for my troubles. I had to delete files to bring the server back online. Overall, I think 1&1 is alright if you are going to host a website or two with nothing complicated.

They are a great value for that. Otherwise, stay away from their VPS services as they seem to have hidden limitations and service is sub-par.

I recommend 1&1 for their services. Their services are competitive. Their support is very responsive.

Their domain features are of value and you can easily customize. 1&1 services are up to standard while their prices are reasonable. Thus they are not after money, but they are concerned with customer satisfaction. They always want to hear from their clients. I really recommend 1&1 and they should keep their standards up!

I only use 1 and I for domain registration here in the UK. I have multiple domains. Recently each time I register a domain with them it takes a week or more for the dns record to be updated when I change it in their control panel.

Often the control panel has been completely non functional. And their support is truly bad, 10 days to respond to emails. Why do I still use them, well they are as cheap as anyone else and once the DNS is sorted I don't have anything else to do with the control panel. I did briefly consider hosting with them but don't think I could rely on a company with such slow service.

I've been using 1&1 for a year or 2. Not the best service ever, my father and I both use 1&1 as my father has a URL only account which he does not use so am currently using as a forwarding URL to my website. For an extended period the forwarding for some reason pointed to a random wardrobe company's website which is not so great and it took a long time to fix.

Now I am trying to transfer the domain from his account to mine to which 1&1 will add web space so I can publish with this new domain and do away with the current outdated URL. In addition I hit a technical problem which temporarily rendered my website offline which is a problem. After several phone calls (which I am concerned about the mobile credit from) and a fair bit of waiting the offline problem was fixed but 1&1 charged £10.50 just to transfer the domain over, which is unimpressive considering the mess up before with the wardrobe company. 1&1 keep telling me to ring but I'm waiting around a lot and concerned about the cost. It really shouldn't be this complicated.

I bought VPS. It's crap. Really.

For last 2 weeks or so i have uptime of 77% (!!!!!!!!!) and customer service is nonexistent. The only thing administrators do when i tell them that server is offline again is rebooting and acting like nothing happened. I worked as a sysadm for over a decade and i really don't recall such a BAD quality of service from anyone. Buyer beware!

My name is Ani Ahmetaj. I have been a customer of a lot hosting companies for the past few years and 1and1 is one of them. I once had a problem with my account and contacted their support service.

The online chat support answer was to contact them by email since the moderator within the chat support team didn't know a fix for the login problem that I had. After that I sent an email to 1amd1 support team but it took them 2 whole weeks to respond with something that can barely be called a solution. At the time of their reply I had already fixed my problem with a solution I found on a forum searching the net but the solution they send me by email was an absurd one.

I often had problems with my website uptime (I monitor my websites using uptimerobot) and uptimerobot sent me at least 2 emails/day notifying me that the website has been down for 5minutes. It meant my website was down for at the very least 10 minutes a day. 2 times I couldn't reach my website for 3hours meaning another failure in their uptime. I used their services only for three months and then switched over to another hosting provider.

I have to say that even some free hosting companies kept my website online with no uptime problems. I would not recommend 1and1 hosting to anyone that wants their website online all the time.

Imagine you see your email through Outlook. Imagine you are stupid and you format without saving them because these days if I post a pic on Facebook and immediately delete it after 40years the pic will surface again and ruin your political career. Now imagine that 1&1 has no way (not even if you pay thousands) to retrieve your emails from the server.

Cancelled after 7 days. People can hack your bank account but your emails vanished in thin air. Also, imagine that the customer service just reply to you with 1 line of coldness.

Imagine your website is suddenly down and your email is not working and you don't know why. So you email them and Namesco at the same time (because you are not sure of whom does what, since your web designer is on holiday) and Namesco replies within one hour. No sign of 1&1.

Imagine you are negotiating a $15.000 deal with a client. And you have no email. And 1&1 can only be reached by Skype.

Seriously. They are the Ryanair of hosting services. I am back with Namesco.

From the start I have been looking for a web host that gave great value for their prices but yet had great up time and a stable platform. This was when I found out about 1&1. After combing through pages of reviews and understanding their pricing I decided to give them a chance and up to now I can't say I regret it.

Their pricing for one is fantastic, you can also get a free domain with some packages which is a big advantage. I had a couple of problems setting up my site however their tech support team were straight on the ball and got me up and running in a friendly manner in little time. Their control panel is very easy to navigate through and nothing is too technical.

There was a small bit of downtime at one point, however within an hour the services were restored and an apology was made. I would highly recommend 1&1 to all customers as they provide a wide range of services to suit all needs. I know a couple of friends who will definitely be switching over to them soon. I know myself, I will also continue to use them as a host for the future.

Worst customer service ive ever received. Charity website has been down for 2 years....

2 years they have been unable to give me access to the account. or transfer the account to the charity themselves.

Easier just to lose and rebuy the domain somewhere else. Avoid at all costs.

Its simple really, 1&1 sucks in the worst possible way. To give them their due, the actual provision is fine, and, if you have no issues then its a cheap effective service. However, the nightmare that is support for 1&1 is beyond a joke.

When we had issues with 1&1 it took them over a week of me calling and emailing to get it escalated to an idiot who then sent me a generic email that told me how to do something that I couldnt - the whole issue was that we couldn't access the control panel, and they simply sent me an email showing where to find it. We are now in the process of moving ALL of our domains and web sites to other companies. The uptime, features etc of 1&1 is good, but the measure of any service is the support when things go bad, and with 1&1 is really is dire.

The support staff are difficult to get hold off (Got cut off in que's, phone going dead, being transferred and cut off, promised call backs etc), when you do get to them they appear to be reading from scripts and generally it is just amazing how unprofessional they are. Have yet to speak with anyone at 1&1 who has given me the tiniest inkling that they could resolve my issues, many were 'sympathetic', but in the end all they could do was escalate to someone I then couldnt talk to direct. For a home or non-important website, great value. For anything remotely important, dont touch with a bargepole.

My 5 domains went down today apparently due to credit card verification problem. I fixed this on-line by providing again the same credit card security code and expected my email account to be restored in a timely fashion. I was assured that my domains will be unlocked in 4 hours.

Max. After 8 hours and 5 phone calls including one to the supervisor my 5 companies which depend on the exchange of emails with our clients I am still waiting for restoring of my services. And yes, I can only say "1&1 sucks" and it's the high time to move our services somewhere else. Kris

I wish I had known the 99 cent domain hook was an invitation for 1&1 to constantly bug me about using their other bottom of the pack services.

5 Minutes after I bought the 99 cent domain I got a call from some kid selling their Page Builder. I'm a web designer and always looking for new tools to speed things up. I didn't think it would be useful but after about 5 minutes of arguing I gave in and took the trial.

After 5 minutes of looking at the Builder I sent an email canceling the service with my comments. I looked at what they were doing and the pages created looked amateurish and outdated. Totally unprofessional and not something I would ever use for any kind of project.

My request to cancel was not responded to and I got busy and didn't think any more of it. They sent me a bill for around $75 3 months later and it all started. They have been harassing me to pay a bill for a service that I immediately cancelled on ever since.

I contacted support and they pointed me to a ridiculously complex cancellation procedure which I completed. This didn't accomplish anything so after several emails and phone calls I finally gave up. I still get a collection letter every once in a while.

The whole thing is designed to corner you and pressure you into buying their other crappy offers. You don't need to look around much online to confirm what I am saying. There are complaints numbering in the 1000's.

This is a very hard way to save 10 bucks. Avoid the cheap domain offers and go to a professional domain registrar that doesn't do bait and switch. Always check online reviews before making a purchase.

If I had thought of checking their Facebook page it would have saved me a lot of time and therefore money. I would not recommend this company to anyone for any reason. Avoid like the Plague.

Do NOT use 1and1, they have a nice homepage to attract people but they don't tell you about the hidden charges. I stopped using the host over 6 months ago and they recently charged me £40, I told them I remember cancelling the service and they threatened to go to collections even though I stopped using the host over 6 months ago. So just Don't ever, Ever use them.

1&1 is actually good web hosting site that provides lots of services online. It has lots of other features like, domain parking, web hosting, domain registration. It is full with features that can be anytime used.

The feature I like the most is, it provides services 'round the clock'. So one does not need to waste much time to wait for uptime and downtime. 1&1's services are known internationally and known for it's quality. It also offers some other services and in this field it has been for about many years. So one may go through any site to conform it's quality.

I tried to cancel as I had no use for the site. Unfortunately, I was outside the money-back offer and they told me I had to stay with them for 12 months - even though I didn't need the site. I decided not to pay and the site was taken down by them and I started getting letters from a debt recovery outfit, with their costs the monthly payment nearly doubled.

So I'm paying double for a service they are not even providing as they have taken my site down. I'd stay well clear of these people, not worth they pain and there are better products out there who treat their customers as human beings.

Sure, there are some benefits to 1&1. Uptime is quick, payments are cheap (at first) but the cusomer service Sucks!! Are you kidding me?

I've never been talked to like that before. I tried to cancel and it took over an hour, putting me on hold and making me talk to 4 different people. It's not that difficult!

As a small business ownerI refuse to Ever recommend 1&1 to anyone. Unprofessional and rude customer service will end up being the end of this company.

Here's the thing - I'm really not what you'd call a power user in the whole domain and hosting department. I've got a hosting plan that lets me have three domains, and I've had that plan for a long time. Over the years, I've hosted two Blogger-ftp blogs on the different domains, and one WordPress installation, and one website that I built with the 1&1 included website builder.

I've never had a significant problem with 1&1 in terms of hosting and technical stuff. The sites go up clean, and stay up. I've never had a downtime problem, even that one time that I posted something that actually got a little interest from the world.

Tech support is pretty good. The database of FAQs and things is fairly extensive and the documents that I've used are generally quite accurate and useful. Sometimes they'll be a little behind the curve -- the help document will be for setting up Thunderbird N.NN, but Thunderbird will already be up to vertion N+2.01 -- but the information is usually pretty good and my impression is that they remedy those kinds of things pretty quick.

The feature set available from 1and1 seems extensive -- but as I noted at the outset I'm not a user who takes advantage of those. For that reason, I've ranked the value (For me) a little low, because I feel like I'm paying for a much more extensive feature set than I use. If I had to do it again -- and I do, every time the plan comes up for renewal -- i'd probably look for a cheaper host with fewer features. But if someone came to me and that person had need of all the different bells and whistles, I'd certainly recommend 1and1.

This company has the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I was actually told that if I did not follow their instructions, of which I did not understand) after they did something that shut down my website that it would take 4 days to get my website up and running. If your business depends on your website and e-mail being up do not use this company. They are the worst.

Never ever do business with 1&1. They are an unreliable, undependable, and unprofessional hosting provider. I have over 100 clients hosted with them, and last month they ALL experienced a 48 hour period of downtime due to “server” issues that they could not provide an explanation for or an ETA for the repair.

Now, a month later (almost to the day) and the same has happened again. As of writing this, all of my clients have been down for over 12 hours. Steer clear of this crew, they are incompetent and also arrogant and rude on support calls.

In both instances I was told they are aware of the issue and are “running a fix” for it. Some fix.

This company freezes your web site upon the least problems with payments. It happened to me the second time that my credit card used was compromised/stolen and the charge did not go through. They send you an email warning and if you don't act right away, you are toast. I am taking my business elsewhere, where people are reasonable.

I tested 1 and 1 Internet's services last fall, starting with their basic 99 cents per month email package, primarily to test the quality of their services. I've since moved up to their top-of-the-line Titan Linux root dedicated server. When you compare the features with the competition, they are way ahead of the pack.

I also transferred all my domains to them. Customer service has been great. With dedicated servers, support comes direct from their headquarters in suburban Philadelphia.

I've also dealt extensively with billing, the result of adding and removing services, and they've always treated me with courtesy and respect. More to the point, billing is always accurate, and promised credits are always granted. I earn my living online.

My server has five busy sites, including two online radio shows. I use Apple's Darwin Streaming Server as a broadcasting tool. 1 and 1 Internet provides the fast, reliable service I require to stay in business. Whether it's a small, personal site or a full-blown business, you can depend on 1 and 1 Internet to deliver the kind of service you expect.

Worst experience ever. Due to the attack earlier this week, we decided to transfer DNS and a domain name away from 1&1. Before any transfers were complete, all records were purged from their servers.

Why? The records were there before the attack and the requested transfers! Now they are missing.

The result? No website for our client since Tuesday. All they need to do is re-enter the records back in but they won't do it.

They have no real reason for why the records were deleted. The support team has no power to fix anything. We get different answers every time we talk with them.

Now we have to call them again tomorrow to try and resolve the issue. That will then be 6 days for our client without a site - an e-commerce site - at Xmas!! http://www.thinktechnica.com/r/11-hosting-please-help-us/

We have had only problems with 1&1. They have non standard approach to make it difficult to make changes and move. We changed hosting but did not wish to change email accounts.

Nevertheless they dropped out email account and when we reactivated it they said it would take 24 - 48 hours. We can't wait to never, I mean never use this company again. There must be 100's of companies better. We suggest to not use them even if it were free!

I have been with 1&1 for 5+ years. The only reason I haven't changed is because the large amount of domains that I have on behalf of my large list of clients both past and present and it would be a royal pain in the ass to move all of them to a new host. But guess what?

I'm starting that process today. 1&1 has a terrible and complicated control panel interface. Navigating is painfully slow and they limit bulk actions. Last month, I had set about 20 domains to Do not renew, which took me 2 hours because you can only set one at a time to Do not renew and it takes forever.

So after all that pain, they still renewed them all anyway and charged me for the full amount on everything. I argued that I shouldn't owe them because I set them to Do not renew, so they shut down my entire hosting service. So all my websites are down from all my domains, even when all my Hosting fees and 40 other domains are Paid for.

Tldr: If you're reading this, Do not go with 1and1. They are terrible.

I was a new customer. I signed up for a VPS and it was released to me today. Upon logging in via ssh and uploading a backup of my Confluence instance, which I was planning to install on my 1and1 VPS...

I started getting disconnected from my ssh session. After this happened several times and finally not able to login to my VPS, I called support. Support was useless, all they could tell me is that they were aware of the issue and that it was affecting all customers on this node.

I am a brand new customer and sold me a broken vps. They said I would have to wait for a fix. When I said that was not acceptable, I was told they could "put in" a request to have me migrated to another node, but could not provide any ETA for that to happen.

I then said I would cancel and go elsewhere. There is no one at 1and1 that can cancel my account and refund my money. I have to call back tomorrow.

Again, this is unacceptable, so I ask for a supervisor... Im told the supervisor went home for the day. What kind of business are you people running here.

I am disgusted by the product and the service I received from 1and1. I demand that you refund my money. Your Site offers a 30 day money back guarantee or is that fake as the rest of your organization. Very disappointed,

Ron Herzing

I have been searching for a solid domain name registrar + backup hosting for a long time. If you are in the market only for a domain name stop right here and got to 1&1's website. The 0.99$ deal is something you can't miss out on!

Add to this their excellent support, uptime and features and you get a hosting plan that's Really hard to beat. Recommended to all my colleagues.(Even the not technically minded!)

This is the great site which offers domain and web hosting at very convenient price. The offers are incomparable from other domain providing sites. It offers domain at 0.99$ for first year and for web hosting too. This is the great site and I always recommend this site for domain and web hosting buying.1&1 is the best site that I've ever seen.

Registering and renewing websites should be as easy as 1-2-3. Not with 1&1. I've worked as an internet provider for over 2 years.

They this outfit are by far the worst online provider I've known. Their service, website and billing process are all sub-par. Save yourself the time, stress and expense and opt for another service. I recommend NameCheap.

1&1 Sucks big time. Recently had a credti card cancelled by the company at their descretion due to a third party fraudulent act, absolutely no fault of mine. The idiots at 1and 1, instead of calling or Emailing me to let me know the ctredit card information had changed, Locked the account.

An email Supplier, that couldn't email to advise there was a problem with the account!!!! Disgusting not the word, called them on same, they left me hanging on the phone, uggh. So mad.

What a way to treat people, shows there arrogance to say the least. Go some place else, get your service.

If you have your own name server, it takes two days to set up a new .com domain. First you have to buy the domain, but they won't let you set your name servers in this process. You have to wait for the domain to populate.

They do not send you a notification. You just have to keep checking. For .com domains, I've had to wait until the next day.

Then you can set your name servers, and this can take another day. When a domain is transferred away from them, they do not stop billing you for it. You have to log in to a separate account to cancel things.

Looking at the list of domains for which they bill you, there is no way to tell if you really have the domain or if they are just billing you for it. I've had a few clients say they wanted to transfer, but then didn't do it. This creates major confusion if you are buying your domains from 1and1.com

On three separate occasions, 1and1.com has added expensive Microsoft Exchange Servers to my account that I did not order - absolutely no way.

On two occasions, they did this to my larger account with several domains in it. I called, and they fixed it no problem. On one occasion, they did this to a left-over account I had with them that only had one domain in it.

When they thought I was a one domain customer, they gave me a major run around and would not give all my money back. They kept saying that I did not owe the money and that they would give the money back, but they never could actually make it happen. I have it in writing that they said I did not owe the money and that I should get it back.

After 60 days of negotiating with them, I went through my credit card to get my money back. When I did this, 1and1.com literally took the domain name hostage. They shut down the traffic and refused to let me transfer it.

They would not give the domain name back until I paid them for the exchange server that I did not order plus a $20 fine for having the audacity to protect myself through my credit card. I called them and got the woman who agreed to refund my credit card on the phone, and she said there was absolutely nothing anyone could do until I paid them all the money I didn't owe them plus the fine. No apologies.

I have never seen such a disaster trying to set up a website than 1 & 1. My husband, a professional programmer, should have been able to do it one, two, three. Instead he spends hours on the phone with support trying to work out kinks.

Here are two examples:
we indent a paragraph and we save it. It doesn't save the indent. Second, we try to center something on the page, the curser disappears.

This is just two of many, many, many, things wrong with this program. If I'd known how bad this program was, it would have been last on my list. I've already ordered business cards with my domain.

Enough insanity! I'm out of here.

It's pins and needles being associated with 1&1. If you're willing to pay for every feature, it might work all the time. I have the $19.95 / month plan and it's very limited, as is the template.

You'll need to do some coding for larger fonts and centering, etc, as their template commands do not work. This company is huge and the attention to each customer, at least with me, has been very time consuming. You will be transferred back and forth many times, with each new CS rep asking all the vitals.

It's frustrating, but that's how large companies operate. That said, I have spoken with a few CS reps that were very pleasant when telling me something basic would not work. But, if I upgraded to say $359.00 / year, my request just might work. Needless to say they're very proud of their fees, which to the average worker, are not cost effective.

The templates are very limited and even though someone will answer the phone 24/7, the technical team works limited hours, which means you'll need to wait until they're available. So if you have issues on a weekend, you're told to call back on Monday. When you're paying for advertising, each visit you get is important.

When you do get a visitor and they find Your Site not working or altered, you can't really ask them to come back on Monday - you've lost that customer. That doesn't seem to penetrate the mindset of 1&1. So the promise of 24/7 support is actually not true.

If you want the SEO meta to kick in, that will cost you $19.95 / month extra. I've never been, nor do I wish to be a copy shop, but that's what I'm given. Deal with it or pay more.

At $240.00 / year, the service is iffy at best. Enter a relationship with this company knowing you will have issues and you will definitely spend your time on the phone, trying to resolve unresolvable issues. The team will be very polite in denying your basic requests.

I used 1&1 to set up my personal website. At first I chose the wrong package and wanted to cancel everything outright. I got a letter from the Sr.

Cancellations Mgr. and was asked to call him to see if we could work things out. WoW!

I actually feel like the customer support staff over there really cared about keeping my business. The gentleman acted as if it were his family's business. Like he would personally look at this a loss.

Furthermore the way he represented himself and the hands-friendly personality was that of an owner, and not an employee. I was impressed. I am now looking to design a business website and have no doubt in my mind who I will choose.1&1 is a great hosting company.

I had ordered a package to switch from my current carrier to 1 and 1. I was attracted to the prices that they offered which was a little cheaper than my current carrier. After signing up for the service I had done everything that is required to get the website converted over their servers.

I was pleasantly surprised when my website was down and the transfer still had not been done. I had spend countless hours trying to get support in getting my site back up and running. All they could tell me was that they had sent me an email to complete this process.

I informed them over and over again that this so called email has not arrived in my email box. So they said that they would escalate to another person and I would have to wait 24 hours for them to respond. After waiting those 24 hours still no email.

I called back and once again they said email was sent...no email arrived. They informed me that it would take another 24 hours for this to get escalated again. With my website being down and being a fairly new business this was getting irritating that I was not getting the support that I wanted like I get from my other carrier.

I informed them to cancel my account. Low and behold more problems are on the rise. I later found out that they had created two accounts one for email and one for the website/hosting.

I only found out about the other account when my credit card was charged. So after talking to countless number of reps I was finally able to get the other account number. I got both accounts cancelled and they had informed me that they would refund my money.

3 days later I get another charge on my credit cards for both of these accounts. (remember these accounts have been cancelled for 3 days).

I call back. This time another rep informed me that he has credited back all the invoices on the account. Currently, I am still waiting for these refunds on my account to happen. In the meantime, I renewed with my current service and now I am out of 2 charges with 1 & 1 plus my old (current) provider.

I used 1&1 before. I then wanted to cancel my subscription. I had no confirmation from them and the next thing I knew I was sent a letter by a 'debt collection agency'.

I had changed my credit card so they couldn't debit my account for a service I never used and didn't want. Do not use 1&1 if you can possibly avoid it.

I have their Home Windows package, that is a good price value. I have had this package for about 5 years. At first it was OK since I really didn't have any support required, but in the past year every time support was required they were terrible starting with the support representative.

They are in Asia and don't understand English and can't make themselves understood. If your issue is anything that requires any depth, they are lost and if it did't require depth, I would have handled it myself. Then 6 months ago they "changed servers" and my web sites were down for 5 days.

Their answer was "we're sorry sure, but Admin is working on the problem". They couldn't give me a time it would be back up or didn't give me a reason it was down. When I need something changed and find out that I must send an email to support they never do it or it takes them a week to get it done.

The only thing they do on time is bill my credit card and if their is a billing error, it takes them a month or longer to give me a credit. I have another hosting package at Go Daddy that I have had for about 10 years. When I have a question, I call Arizona and a real live American who walks me through the issue.

I have never had a single issue that they didn't handle to my total satisfaction. I started using 1 and 1 for price and it was a big mistake. I'm now trying to get my domains moved to another Go Daddy account and it has taken me over a month to just get them to give me the information needed to transfer them.

They make it easy to start, but after terrible support, they make it almost impossible to leave them. I Really hate 1and1. Bill

1and1 is hands down the worst host on the web. I would rather put needles in my eyes than deal with these cost cutting jokers. Worst customer support is being nice to them.

LiquidWeb is far and away a better option (and comparable in price!). Honestly, if they didn't make it so damn hard to merge off their system, I can't imagine they would have any business.

Stay Away. I had several domains registered with this company and they caused me serious problems. On their own initiative they split each one into a separate account with a different username and a different password for each and made it impossible for me to manage.

As a result I was unable to cancel some domain names I no longer wanted. Of course they did me the "courtesy" of automatically renewing And billing all of my 30 accounts. I ended up just changing my credit card number and transferring the domains I wanted to keep to another provider (NameCheap) which I'm very happy with. They even tried to ruin my credit but good thing for me they are incapable idiots.

As a Drupal developer, I was disappointed in 1&1's policy of locking memory allocation to no more than 30M per shared hosting account. That is far too low to run a Drupal installation with even a moderate number of active modules. Support issues have not been satisfactorily answered, and in most cases the technician is Googling for the answers to my issues and reading directly from external blogs that I've already read. Never have I encountered support from anyone with actual programming or system admin experience.

1&1 Service may be suitable for a very basic customer with a very basic static website, or some simple PHP/.NET database calls, but not for anything more complicated than that.

Have been a customer for some time with a few domains hosted throughout my time. So far I have had no issues until I decided to make a new purchase for a domain name I wanted running Asap. So I was surprised to find the domain I had purchased sat with a locked state in my control panel and not only that, was still available with every other registrar after 3 days waiting for it to become active.

Assuming that if there had been a problem, 1&1 would have informed me through some means, I have received no communication from them. So I went searching for contact details - the only ones on their site showed either an online support section or an option to arrange a call - incredibly inconvenient for me! Why can't companies offer a simple email or other text based support service?

Have now asked for the order to be cancelled and am transferring all other domains to OVH who are so much more reliable! A shame with 1&1 but I guess they have grown too large for their customer base to properly support them.

1 & 1 is a domain and hosting provider much, since I know the internet and need to purchase a domain to use, I know 1 & 1. 1 & 1's longstanding and domain and hosting providers worldwide reputation. 1 & 1 always have promotions for registered customers with extremely preferential prices. I have been using the services of 1 & 1. Previous Day 1 & 1 no customer support from Vietnam, but the current 1 & 1 has accepted and provides support to customers from Vietnam, I thought it was a new step of the supplier 1 & 1 I think 1 & 1 will more and the more development to come out on top and compete fairly with other vendors such as GMOs, Godaddy .....

They have very poor and old manuals, i took me days to configure mod_rewrite for using my CMS based in snews, after days i got this answer:

"thank you for contacting us. We apologize for the inconvenience but scripting is not a scope of our support. Please try to configure the .htaccess file in your webspace."

The same CMS (snews) works well in a free hosting such as Hostinger.es without doing special configurations in the .httaccess file
I will use the hosting of my new project this first year with them, but after it I will migrate next year, not recommended.

1&1 is good for html pages but for dinamic sites if you are an expert with PHP, Apache configurations, programming you can survive with 1&1.

After years of being with 1&1, I have finally left and would not recommend others to buy their domains here. Like many people, I was drawn to 1&1.com after seeing their prices on domains. The $1 sale was on and I was iffy on whether or not I wanted my own site so hey, $1 wasn't a lot.

But it took days to set up. After the domain was finally live, it took days for the DNS settings to stick so that they pointed to the correct place. And it takes days for any other change that you make to take place as well except for the change to the public Whois registry information.

This is really why it's taken me so long to cancel. I already had them and didn't want to go through the hassle of getting every setting changed over weeks in order to transfer out my domain. Next, many of their helpfiles or tutorials are incorrect or outdated.

Some of the picture diagrams show you the account control panel from years ago while some will simply give you the wrong information. For example, while trying to transfer a domain out, their tutorial tells you to Enable domain locking. However, it should be Disabled as even the help-tip hover icon tells you.

Finally, and one of the reasons why it's taken me so long to cancel, is that there's a whole extra cancellation login page. No, you can't find it from the account settings or in the main control panel. You have to use the help search tool to find out that you need to login to the hidden cancellation area to request the cancellation of your account. Overall, just a bad experience with 1and1.com.

So beginning my trek to start hosting a website, 1&1 seemed like a good route to go. So we register a domain and get their hosting package only to realize that their services will not support our site. However, the problem with this is that my team and I had to figure this out, On our own.

When I contacted support at 1&1 it was an awful experience. I was on hold for at least 30 minutes and finally I get some lady who has no clue what she was doing, then at one point began to Completely ignore me. So then we call to cancel our services and they give us the refund and tell us that the domain we purchased with the package won't be released for 30 Days!

Putting a month behind schedule. So to top off the terrible experience, we went to our domain two weeks later and it had already been purchased and parked, which means 1&1 released the domain and now someone is trying to sell it Way overpriced. Never use 1&1 for Anything, if you have any sort of issue you better hope you can figure it out on your own.

I registered with 1&1 in 2003 and had approximately 40 domains plus domains for clients. Their customer service is horrible. I am on hold with their customer support as I write this review.

Been on the phone for 90 minutes and only 10 minutes of that time has been spent speaking to someone. This is not the first time this has occurred. I am wondering if their goal is to keep me on hold until I hang up.

Some of their processes for making simple changes are convoluted so as to purposely prevent customers from making changes. I have found it more difficult to set-up database web-apps especially Ms sql Server on 1&! servers than on servers on two other hosting companies.

Don't bother call customer support for actual technical issues/questions. Because of the number of domains we have registered with 1&1, I avoided completely switching hosting companies. I finally gave in this year and made the decision to start transferring our domains to another hosting company as 1&1 no longer meets our needs.

I hope that the experience with the new hosting company will be much better. I can say that it took less than 10 minutes to bring a Ms sql Server web-app online with the new hosting company along with having remote access to the Ms sql databases. That makes the transition worth it!

Still on hold waiting for a 1&1 customer support rep to return. Guess they win as I will hang up but they will ultimately lose a long-time customer along with 40 domains.

Probably the worst experience with a web hosting company I've ever had. Their control panel for windows hosting is a joke, and absolute nightmare... and their support made me want to stab myself in face repeatedly with a rusty pair of scissors...

I chose 1&1 to host my web portfolio site. I had the site address printed on hundred of resumes and business cards to be handed out to potential employers. The site crashed in the middle of the week, so I have employers checking out my crashed site.

I waited on support line for over 30 minutes. When I finally reached what I believe was a human, it was like talking to a heartless robot. She said she could only document my problem and nothing more could be done.

No compassion, no advice, no reassuring words, the opposite of support really. Unless I want to attend college for another 4 years of web design, I missed out on an opportunity of a lifetime because of 1&1's failure. I will never use them again.

1&1 Sucks. I have been waiting over a month since registration for a domain name to become available in my 1&1 control panel so I can use it. Apparently, a glitch at registration caused the name not to appear in my control panel and yet, simple as this sounds, 1and1 have not resolved the problem 4 weeks later.

The domain shows as registered to me at Nominet and I can do nothing with it. To make things worse, I have now also waited for a week for my name server update to take place on another domain. It is not happening.

I am finding it impossible to get 1and1 to fix this. They keep telling me to wait and the last email stated that they have fixed this. Rubbish, I am Still waiting.

This is not the first time. This means two useless domain names, 1 very upset customer of mine who is awaiting their new site for their business and 1 provider who seemingly do not appear to be capable of understanding the gravity of the problem let alone fixing it. I have over 200 domains registered with various providers and I have never received such a poor, unhelpful and inconsiderate level of customer service. In my opinion, I would seriously consider another provider if you have any critical sites.

Worst customer support ever. I have been calling all the numbers they provide and all I got is an answer machine or a robot voice telling me to choose between different options. At the end, I was finally able to hear a human voice.

When that happen, my load went off. I spent all my money calling 1and1 free customer service!! I really don't recommend this company!

1&1 Rocks! I am a domain reseller, a web developer and creates websites for my customers.
1&1 offers the best service with very low plan prices. Customer is service is very reliable and their support staff is awesome!

I will definitely stay with 1&1. I am not sure why some people are having these ridiculous issues with this company (am sure non-existing). Lol!.

Anyway, free country! jake!

!&! has been a great supplier of hosting and web services. I first signed up for just the domain name, but after being a customer for a little bit, I decided to also order to hosting plan.

The uptime has been great, I have never experienced an outage, and whenever I have a question about how to push new code they are always there to help. I would definitely recommend 1&1 for their superior service and excellent customer support.

I have used 1&1 services for my business and clients for multiple years. At first I was disappointed with their support, but it has changed significantly over time. I rarely have any troubles and the only down time I had was 30 minutes in the last 3 years.

Absolutely avoid this company. The packages are cheap but support is either irritating or a complete joke. As for customer service, God help you when you have a problem - and you will.

You will not be able to speak to anyone who can will take responsibility for their mistakes. Nothing is simple, everything needs days to sort out, and you will never get an apology for their stupidity. Resolving issues means you have to waste your time filling in forms and chasing people who promise to cal you back and never do.

You can only complain via email to an anonymous department. You will then be ignored. Put simply, avoid this host provider at all costs.

1&1 is one of the market leaders among the web hosting providers. They provide high security hosting solutions at down to earth prices. The prices of their hosting services are so affordable that most small businesses are willing to partner with 1&1 for their hosting solutions.

One of the major things which I was informed by the customer care representative of 1&1 is that they host your entire website data at 2 separate locations that is 2 separate servers which means that if one of the location crashes you website is still up and running. They provide hosting with both Windows & Linux servers and we can make our choice. As I am not great at coding and programming I was finding it very difficult to create my own website and design its layout.

But when I hosted my website at 1&1 I was able to design my website very easily using their website development tools and services. They also have a library of free templates and layouts that a user can use for their website. They also support us with free web apps like Twitter, Delicious, Facebook etc.

for web based marketing of our website. The customer care executives of 1&1 are very considerate and help you in and out with all your web hosting or website related problems. They are prompt in responding to your emails and calls and make sure that your problem is resolved.

They also ask you for a confirmation in order to check whether they were able to resolve your problems. All in all a great experience.

Just took a 1&1 Dedicated server on a 24 month contract - it has been 'delivered' but doesn't do what I need and support simply won't help - I have read that it is an issue with Plesk, so would expect them to resolve this and at least deliver a machine that does what it says it will do. So, my contract has 30 days 'Money Back Guarantee' - I am on day 3! I called and spoke to a rep, who was simply complacent - no effort to find out why I was leaving, whether they could help - nothing - just 'ok I will cancel it good bye' - and he told me off for interrupting him (which I wouldn't have done if he had sounded a bit more alive!!!).

Good company? Nah...

Honestly, this has been the worst hosting experience ever. I bought a one year plan with 1and1 and I cannot even modify my domain settings do to an error in the Domain Center that they need system administrators to fix. Thus, I've been without the ability to edit my domains for weeks now and cannot do anything.

I'm at a complete standstill and it's ridiculous. Furthermore, I can't even get a refund or anything for the days that I missed.

Worst host ever. They kept telling me that I needed to update my credit card. It was accurate.

What was inaccurate was my zip code, which when ran with the credit card, caused it to be declined. This was not realized until they cancelled the account. Then, I spent over a week trying to get them to restore the account, which they kept saying they would do, every day, only to be told that I had to call again to provide them with the same information that I had done multiple times before.

They deleted every email, every webpage, everything. While I understand that, they could have at least restored the domains the very day that I called the first time, but they did not as the left hand did not know what the right hand was doing. They are totally incompetent on customer service and satisfaction.

Who cares if they have 24 hour support if they say they will fix the issue and don't for over a week!!!!! Never again!

I decided to try out their dedicated servers a few months ago, once I did I was instantly happy with it. When I finally got my servers up and running (steam servers) the ping was always high for every player. Lag was extremely common.

I talked to their support team for weeks, they must've been hired straight from Pakistan, they had no idea what they were talking about nor could I understand them on the phone. When I went to cancel they sent me to their American office and I talked to somebody I could finally understand. Then they told me I wasn't allowed to cancel and that the problem was on my end.

Not true. I just changed my email and stopped paying for it. I recommend not going with 1and1

I so wish I had found this place before I went ahead with 1and1. Their customer service is absolutely terrible. The telephone number for customer services is an 0845 number but beware if you have BT and think this is free.

It is not, I called them and waited ages to be connected to an adviser. Had this several times and then got my phone bill in, that was a shock. Now 1and1 wont let me have access to my domain name.

They just wont change the IPS tag for another host to get access. As it stands now, the domain name that I paid for is totally useless. I had almost all my business contacts on the email but had to change that too.

I cannot express how angry I am with them. I had to give them one star because there isn't the option to give zero. I originally transferred my domain to them to sign up for their special offer eshop but was absolutely unable to get it working because their customer services didnt have a clue what to do.

One call that lasted over an hour (part of my phone bill) had me passed to 4 different people, None of which sorted my problem. Don't use this company, they don't care about customers and do everything they can do obstruct you moving to another web host. Oh and I am still waiting for my promised refund.

I've been with 1and1 for over 7 years now and I have been using their basic home plan which costs only $6.99. And I am hosting 5 sites including 2 e-commerce sites, I think they are very good for its worth. Transferring in/out domains was a breeze for me, and setting up SQL database and email is intuitive. I can't comment on their "performance" in terms of CPU/traffic bandwidth because I'm using the share host option, but I don't see much issue over the 7 years I'm with them, would definitely recommend it to people looking for basic hosting plan or even e-commerce sites.

1&1 Lost all our DNS settings overnight - they said it was their bad, until we asked about compensation for lost business, when they changed their minds and blamed us for the settings change (we had not logged in for some weeks). 1&1 are truly the worst DNS provider out there - we will be changing all DNS to 123reg this week and never go near 1&1 ever again. It has cost us a fortune in lost trade on multiple sites, and this is not the first time that this has happened!!

I joined 1&1 last year with my website and have slowly been building it since. I was worried before I started because I'd read some bad reviews, but my husband had organised the website as a present. I cannot recommend this host highly enough.

They have responded quickly to all of my emails and have ensured that they fix the problem, no matter how small. Fantastic provider - choose 1&1

I had a good initial experience with 1and1 when I purchased 4 domains. I liked the free email account that they give and the free email forwarding. All was looking good and I was actually considering transferring all of my domains at various other registrars over to 1and1.

And that's when the problems began. Within the Domain Center control panel there is an option to transfer domains into 1and1. I tried this for various domains I was looking to transfer and I kept getting an error that said something of the order "You cannot complete this operation".

So, naturally, I thought "Hey, this is a great opportunity to get on the phone and see how their support is!" More problems ensued. I got on the phone after waiting 10 minutes with someone who's English was satisfactory. After putting me on hold several times to check with a supervisor, I imagine, he finally came back on and said "Sir, the error that your are receiving is a bug in our system and there has been a support ticket to our IT team to fix it." After asking what I should do to transfer my domains, he finally suggested that I log out and go to the main page and begin the transfer process as if I were a new client.

He assured me that I could enter my account details during that process and all would be well. So that's what I did. Which didn't work at all and created further trouble.

Now I had 3 new packages within my account that were generated from the transfer attempts with each one of them blank, meaning there wasn't any domain within them. So after receiving no response on a support ticket I submitted I called customer support again and this is when I decided I was with the wrong company. The support rep this time told me that she didn't know why it didn't work and she had no recommendations for me.

She was completely confused and we both ended the call with no action steps to correct any problem. I was finished with 1and1.com at this point and began to search for a better registrar. I read many, many tech blogs that extolled the support, features, and pricing of several registrars: NameCheap.com, hover.com, and gandi.net kept popping up.

I ended up going with Gandi.net and I'm so happy with their support, pricing, featureset, and interface. They're motto says it all: no bullshit. They've been wonderful.

The only problem is now getting the domains that I have registered with 1and1.com out of there and over to Gandi, which is my latest headache with 1and1.com. I just got off the phone and was told by the agent there was nothing he could do to release my domain name in question, despite him seeing that I had requested the transfer properly with the respective authorization code and everything. He said that I just needed to wait for 2 more days to see if it happens.

If you're looking for a domain registrar or company that has great support, an easy to use interface, a functional featureset, and an overall satisfactory domain management experience---avoid 1and1.com at all costs. It appears they've diverted much needed product & customer service investments into Super Bowl commercials and other marketing efforts. I'll never try them again.

Very poor customer service and billing department. After I had cancelled my contract (and they confirmed this) they tried to debit funds from my account 3 times. When I then contacted customer service they just kept repeating themselves and stating that I would not be charged.

Very annoying and caused a lot of hassle. Overall a very poor company with terrible customer service. Do not use 1and1.

1&1 is the worst company I have ever dealt with! There tech department is in the Philippians and they cannot resolve issues and they do not have any authority to fix any issues on top of that. 1&1 does not have a customer service department that you can call, the management team does not take phone calls and No one at 1&1 will give out phone numbers to any management what so ever. The only way that I got to a customer complaint department was to search for 1&1 complaints on the internet and found that they had over 1100 Better Business Complaints out there with a lot of them unresolved and now after my experiences I See WHY! Stay away from 1&1 Internet services....there is absolutely No customer service and they do not care At all about their customers!

These guys are the worst hosting company on the planet. I have been unable to login to my wordpress site because of their server issues for the last 4 days. I am losing $ in business and missing key deadlines on projects.

On top of that I just upgraded to their Unlimited plan to make sure I get the best hosting they offer. I am moving my domains away from this company as soon as I get a chance. I will never recommend anyone wastes time with this horrible company.

I am fuming! I have just had the phone put down on me (not for the first time) by one of 1&1's customer support representatives. I did not swear or use abusive language - the company obviously holds its customers in very poor regard and the way it treats its paying clientele is absolutely appalling.

Less than two months ago I purchased their middle hosting package. I noticed a feature in my control panel (their mobile website builder) and tried to use it - 1&1 tried to charge me, so I pulled back. I checked their main website to see what features were included in my package and this feature was marked as being inclusive and available - hence my call to their customer support department.

I was told that although my package is exactly the same package, I was excluded and had to pay because I purchased mine 4 weeks too early. I called that 'pathetic' and asked to speak to her line manager. The phone promptly went dead.

This is the latest in a long line of bad experiences with their customer support department and every time their response to valid questions leads me to the conclusion that they do not value their customer base - losing all interest the second they have you under contract. This is why you have to spend millions of dollars on advertising 1&1 !!!! ... to replace disgruntled customers and repair your bad reputation.

Luckily enough - I haven't replied to their latest questionnaire yet ( I'm about to fill it out now) - am wandering though if they'll take a blind bit of notice.... suspect not!

we have been experiencing dozens of email bounce backs for the last few weeks. Forwarded them to [email protected] with no response. Called them they said they would "escalate" the matter to a supervisor and someone would call back within 20 minutes.

No one called back. Called again days later, they said it is a "known" problem affecting many people. However their call centers are swamped because of the typhoon in the Philippines and are trying to address the problem and hope to have it fixed soon.

Two days later; it's still not working. We are switching to a better provided Asap.

1&1 service is terrible. There advertising is misleading on how simple it is to create a web presence. After several calls and attempts online, giving up on their service has been the only reasonable answer.

I found a competitor of theirs and things are 100% better. Here's the problem: I could not get 1&1 to stop billing my credit card. My attempts to have them stop were ignored.

So I have never been able to get their products to work, but they keep taking my money. Finally my credit card expired. They then threatened to send me to collection for the continuing monthly charges.

Aaargh! My experience with this company is pathetic. Any web company has analytics and can easily know that I have Never been able to use their service.

Yet they are content to keep taking money from me. Such nice people.

I'm sorry to give a semi-negative feedback for 1&1 but i must admit that it could be better assuming their ads and positive review on every site and magazine. I know that 100% uptime is impossible but the last month I have experienced 3 downtime and their support is not as reactive as it would be. If my site is an ecommerce i probably lost money.

So I have tried several times to cancel and can't reach a person, the recording says to do this online. (I did cancel the day after we signed up during the trial, but apparently it didn't take.) I go online, but get error messages. I get collection letters and call, and are told to contact the company directly, etc... I have spoken to exactly ONE person who has ever done what he said he would do. NCO Financial is associated with this company so screams shady.

not the greatest company. I try to limit myself to only manage the domains with them. And the still mess it up.

The just installed a new control panel that makes the 1and1 page even slower. The forgot to add glue domain to it, private name server settings, so I have to wait for them to do it. Already 2 days past and nothing happen: Got one email from them but not fixed yet:

Support: The option is not available on the new panel (Domain Center) however we can escalate the case to the proper department to manually point to the correct settings.

How can a host company sell hosting if their own page is slow? I would defenitly not recommend this to my friend. I would be scared to use any kind of other services with them...

First, I'm a 10+ year GoDaddy user, but I purchased a domain off 1&1 a year ago to use for a website experiment. I got the domain at a cheap promo price, which is why I decided to try 1&1's service. I decided not to renew the domain, not because I wasn't pleased with the registrar at the time, but because I didn't want to pursue the website any longer.

Well, today, I received a letter from Ncofinacial on behalf of 1&1 over a $10.99 renewal fee on a domain I Did not wish to renew. On top of that, I got another fee of $18.95 because it was sent to collections, and I was charged an Additional $12.95 fee for Paying the collection off with my credit card. I may have been one to try 1&1's service in the future, but after being turned into collections over a domain I didn't want to keep - I wanted it to Expire - I will Never ever use their service again, or any service Other than GoDaddy for that matter.

And I will Never refer anyone to 1&1. I have let old domains expire on GoDaddy in the past with no issues, no collections. If I didn't want to keep it, I wasn't obligated to do so!

This is one of the worst email service that I am seen. I never seen anything bad than this. When you try to open the webmail using any of the links like email.1and1.com or webmail.1and1.com, the session automatically expires.

You can observe this behaviour number of times in various situations. Sometimes, this can happen after you compose an email and trying to click on send, sometimes as soon as you enter a login password... Similarly, the navigation for some features it is providing is not that correct.

If you are looking for changing a password, ideally, it should be located in the Extras settings. But, with this 1and1, it is under extras...and that too you can see it only once you wait for about a minute or so... I definitely wouldnt recommend this to any of my friends...If you see the same things in Chrome browser, I dont have any word which is worser than worst...:)

1&1 Internet is the worst web host and domain registrar ever! They basically use the "$0.99/year domain" tactic to trick people into signing up for their terrible service. Their customer support is very bad and the service sucks.

When I first signed up and ordered my domain with 1&1 it toke them about three days to completely register the domain and that was after I called the support team three times. I found this very unprofessional, specifically because other companies usually register domains within a few hours of the order. Because of the bad customer service and low quality service that I kept getting, I decided to transfer to NameCheap.

I was told that it could take up to five days for 1&1 to release my domain. However, after four days they still did not release my domain! I tried log into my account in order to view the domain status.

To my surprise, 1&1 locked my account! I got mad and called them. After waiting for 20 minutes, I was connected to an agent.

The agent told me that a "hard lock" was on my account and that the depart that unlocks accounts was closed. I ask why my account was closed and he said "it was only and error"! That got me mad.

I told him that I would report them to Icann and the BBB if they did not release my domain. After saying that he placed me on hold then returned and said "thank you for waiting we have unlocked your account and your domain will be released in a few hours" then he hung up on me! Do not trust your business to these incompetent, unprofessional and rude people. Choose another provider.

I made the mistake of choosing these after a friend recommended them to me on a forum after being unhappy with my current host. Their technical support staff are rude, sarcastic and very unhelpful. In almost all the co-correspondence I have had with them they have pretended to miss understand what I was asking and were mocking at times when I explained to them that I was unfamiliar with FTP transfer as my current host uses a different system.

In consequence, I cancelled the domain and account within less than 24 hours of setting it up. (So much for the 90 day money back guarantee that is displayed on the above advert!)

However, they seemed to think that they then have the right to hound me for money for a service I decided not to use. I am not happy and would not recommend them to anyone and they are worse than the host I am leaving. They are also vastly over-priced and novice website masters beware because they expect you to pay an additional £4.99 a month to use a website builder if you are unfamiliar with html and css.

Not very good at all! The service isn't good value for money not only because their cheapest package is more expensive than other hosts, but also because of the rudeness I received and the fact that there are hidden charges for people new to running a website. I would say go with Bravenet, but they don't do a decent free package anymore.
