Kinsta Introduction

Kinsta is a managed hosting provider specializing in WordPress-hosted sites. It is based in Los Angeles and London that stresses performance and reliability. The company touts some major corporate clients: including Ubisoft, GE, Ricoh and Intuit.

Kinsta Plans

The company offers tiered pricing for smaller businesses and enterprise. What's unique to Kinsta is that the features are unlimited across all of its service plans. Developers can make use of the full range of features, such as the staging areas and duplication of environments, no matter what tier you have signed up for.

The main differences among the plans is that the storage space increases with each level of service, as well as the number of WordPress sites users can host. At the lowest, customers only get one site. At the highest tiers, enterprise customers can host up to 100 sites. Customers who need even greater options can request custom quotes.

Services and Specializations

Kinsta runs its hosting on top of Google Cloud Engine, with the tagline "WordPress at the speed of Google." The company has three data centers located in the US, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific regions. Kinsta uses Google Cloud Engine's multi-region deployment feature, which allows customers to deploy sites across multiple regions at the same time.

As with WP Engine, Kinsta specializes in hosting WordPress sites. The company makes use of containers to isolate deployments and offer staging areas so customers can test sites before deploying them.

Support and Customer Service

The company offers free site migrations, with a temporary URL so customers can monitor the progress of the migration.

Kinsta claims to employ WordPress experts, including experts in plugins and themes. Members of the support staff also have experience creating custom themes.

To manage all of these features, Kinsta has a web-based dashboard. One feature the company has added recently is the ability to specify 301 (permanent) and 302 (temporary) redirects, as well as bulk import rules using a CSV file. The interface is very attractive and intuitive, with a minimalist aesthetic. Customers can also view their all-important analytics. Those handling multiple clients like web designers can attach sites to different companies in the dashboard. The dashboard also includes a detailed log of all changes that have been made to a site.

Customer support is also handled through the dashboard. The public-facing part of Kinsta's website also has a knowledge base of frequently asked questions.

The company touts the speed of its architecture. The use of Nginx over Apache seems to bolster this claim, along with the use of advanced storage features like ZFS and LXD. Kinsta claims to be obsessive about speed.

Kinsta has extensive security and hardware firewalls mentioned below, but the company will fix any site hacking for free if it occurs.

Infrastructure

Kinsta touts its Google-based architecture for its speed. The company offers a range of some of the latest web hosting software, including Nginx, PHP 7, LXD containers, and MariaDB. Kinsta also stores files using the advanced ZFS file system. The company supports several other versions of PHP: 5.6, 7, and 7.1, for things like supporting a particular plugin or testing sites in newer versions of the language.

The company offers staging areas to its customers for them to test websites in a safe environment before deploying them to a wider audience. This is ideal for those who are building complex custom web applications rather than hosting a simple WordPress blog. At the same time, admins can test small changes before taking them live. Want to try out a new plugin? You can see how well it will work with your existing site.

Development Tools

For extra performance in testing environments, Kinsta also supports HHVM. HHVM is a virtual machine for executing Hack and PHP programs using just-in-time compilation. This fits with the company's ethos of providing very fast web hosting. HHVM offers a significant speed boost over PHP's FastCGI interpreter.

These staging environments are backed up the way production environments are. This means developers won't have to start from scratch if something goes wrong with their development environment. An old programmer saying goes that there are two kinds of developers: those who have accidentally blown away key parts of their environment and those who are going to. This is true enough that it's always good to have reliable backups to fall back on, even in temporary environments.

Developers can clone production environments into development staging environments if they want to play around with some things before merging these changes back into production. Kinsta containerizes these environments, so developers can keep production and testing environments separate. When they feel satisfied that the site is working to their satisfaction, they can deploy with a one-click "push to live" option.

Developers will also appreciate SSH access into their systems. This means they can run tools like GIT and even make quick edits to files using text editors like vim. Developers can also run SSH tunnels to database tools like HeidiSQL or Sequel Pro. Kinsta users can also change their SFTP passwords with one click.

The combination of LXD and ZFS allows the company to create isolated backups of systems, with several backup points made each day. In a testing environment, developers can also see how well the existing site works without having to mess with the production server.

Kinsta also offers a number of security services. The company monitors uptime and detects DDoS attacks, claiming to be able to stop these attacks immediately. With many websites moving to HTTPS, Kinsta accepts third-party SSL certificates, even ones from the free Let's Encrypt service. The company also employs hardware firewalls with what it says are strict security settings, along with daemons that scan for malware. Two-factor authentication is also available.

Summary

Kinsta offers fast, reliable WordPress hosting based on the Google Cloud Platform. The unlimited features on each pricing tier, plus the advanced development features, will make it attractive to a wide variety of clients, especially those heavily customizing WordPress sites. It is a good alternative to other hosting companies specializing in WordPress such as WP Engine.

Great support and very knowledgeable team. Would just like to be notified when maintenance occurs so I know our site will be down even for a few minutes. Every time there is maintenance and our site is down I get multiple alerts regarding it being down and then have to investigate. Would be helpful to be aware of downtime beforehand so I don't spend weekend time investigating.

1. Please add Google Authenticator support for 2FA.
2. Please add site delegation to the MyKinsta page (so WP managers can access only Their site in MyKinsta)
3.

Please add TLS 1.3 support for encryption
4. Please add multiple Sftp accounts, instead of one shared account
5. Please add a way to monitor CPU/Memory utilization of the container

Otherwise Kinsta really rocks!

Kinsta rocks for a many features like security, performance, speed and support. They are best in the world right now. But Kinsta only sucks when it comes counting visits of a site.

If I compare Kinsta Visit based model to wpengine visit based model, then wpengine are better than counting visits of their clients. Kinsta counting visits to a robots.txt, even a single image is served they are counting that as a visit, sitemap hits also counts by Kinsta, I mean this is just outrageous for startup plans. Even though, they said they do best to filter the good bots but still I was not happy with them.

So I moved my site to Wpengine. They are a bit slower than Kinsta but at least I won't be paying the overage charges. So I got only one drawback of Kinsta hosting which how they are counting visits.

This was also happened to wpengine as they were seeing a lot complaints about how their customer overcharged but they changed their visit counts policy and see they are doing well right now. If Kinsta improve their system on how they count visit they I think this will be win, win for them.

I migrated to Kinsta after having some struggles with another managed WordPress hosting platform. I'm in my fourth month now and the experience has been great thus far. Performance and reliability has been wonderful, support has been timely and attentive, and I really like the management features.

One thing I've understood since coming to Kinsta is that optimized WordPress hosting does not necessarily mean optimized for Woocommerce. This key area is one thing which separates Kinsta from other WordPress hosts. They do Woocommerce very well.

I'm a physician running e-learning websites. I have sites on WP Engine, Kinsta, GoDaddy, Pagely, Host gator and elsewhere. I can honestly say that Kinsta plays in its own league.

Specifically, Kinsta offers outstanding service, support and performance. During my move to Kinsta their support team helped me for hours and hours, to move, optimize and improve my website performance. Their support was beyond my expectations.

At times I felt bad asking for help because I know it was not their obligation to help me, but they did. Their pricing is very low in relation to the service they provide. When moving to kinsta I immediately experienced a boost in my PageSpeed score and gradually my Google ranking (which may be attributable to better speed and performance).

Visitors have also made it clear that they enjoy the fact that site is much faster. Kansas dashboard is absolutely fine. Not too busy with functions and the necessities are all there. Other hosts weren't bad, just inferior to my experienced with Kinsta.

I've taken a great deal of time looking up the best host I could have for my growing Wordpress site and after a lot of consideration I choose Kinsta mainly because of the speed benchmarks. And they didn't disappointed me.The speed is great, yes, but also it has a very easy-to-use dashboard, awesome features like included ssl, CDN and caching plugins, and the best support I already had. Many times they reached out to me about problems I hadn't noticed or problems that could happen in the future, and when I needed them, the response time was very short.

The price is higher then the entry level hosts I used to use, but very fair, affordable and compatible with the service and support they deliver. If you have a Wordpress site that is growing, you are starting to worry with page load speed and you are not much technical, I definitely recommend going for Kinsta.

Having tried every major WP host on the market over the past 10 years, Kinstas' platform hits that perfect balance between a user-friendly admin panel and all the tools you need as a developer while obliterating the competition with regards to performance and support. Kinsta is the host I've been looking for, all these years.

I've been extremely satisfied since switching to Kinsta. Their support and performance destroy my previous host Flywheel which were themselves a high-level not-cheap Wordpress host. The upgrade to Kinsta has been worth every dime. Every time I've had a problem, I've gotten a response from them within minutes on their live chat.
