Is One.com the Perfect Web Host for You?

One.com is a provider of inexpensive web hosting packages and website building tools. Established in 2002 as B-one, One.com is a leading Denmark-based domain registrar and web host that currently serves over 1.5 million customers.

For those needing a full-featured, yet budget-friendly web host, One.com might just be the option for you.

Are Domain Names Included?

One.com domain offerings, via WhoIsHostingThis.com
One.com domain offerings, via WhoIsHostingThis.com

One.com is one of the leading domain name registrars in Europe, so if you need to register a domain name (either with or without a web hosting plan), One.com is a good option.

What Are One.com Hosting Plans?

One.com offers four different web hosting plans from which you can choose. The entry-level option is a good choice for basic websites and blogs, as well as those needing email-only hosting. The mid-range options (there are two plans in this category) are great for those with more dynamic websites that are a bit more demanding when it comes to resource usage. The high-end option is designed for large and complex websites.

One.com hosting plans, via WhoIsHostingThis.com
One.com hosting plans, via WhoIsHostingThis.com

Those who have built their websites using WordPress can choose from the three WordPress-specific web hosting packages. The WordPress plans are slightly more expensive than the general, all-purpose web hosting plans, but you get helpful extras, such as

  • A SSL certificate
  • Support for an unlimited number of WordPress sites
  • Dedicated RAM and disk space allocations
  • Secured access to your site
  • Multiple databases
  • Backup and Restore services
  • Unlimited email accounts.

If you need email-only hosting, but the entry-level web hosting plan isn't quite what you are looking for, One.com offers three different email-hosting plans from which you can choose. The option that is best for you depends on how many domain names you are using and how much storage you want for your data.

Regardless of which option you choose, you will receive unlimited bandwidth.

What Are Some Add-On Items Available?

In addition to domain names and web hosting plans, One.com sells the following add-ons:

  • Subscriptions to Microsoft's Office 365 product
  • Webshop, a website builder for those looking to launch an e-commerce site

How to Buy a One.com Hosting Plan

Signing up with One.com is an easy process, and unlike many of its competitors, One.com clearly shows how much you will pay with the introductory pricing and how much you will pay during your second year (and beyond) of web hosting.

Behind the Scenes of One.com

When managing the server instance that hosts your website, you will do so using a One.com custom-built control panel.

You can access this control panel by logging in -- after One.com verifies your credentials, you are automatically redirected to the dashboard, which doubles as your control panel.

From your control panel, you can do things like:

  1. Manage your email accounts
  2. Create a website using the Website Builder
  3. Install WordPress with the one-click installer
  4. Manage your files and your databases
  5. Check the statistics One.com has gathered about your website
  6. Upgrade your hosting package.

The control panel shows most (if not all) of the features offered by One.com. However, if you don't have access to that product or feature, you'll see a green banner above the link that says Not Activated. If you have a free trial, the banner will indicate how many days left you have with the trial.

The following areas are not linked directly from the control panel, but they are accessible from a hide-and-show menu accessible from the control panel:

  • Owner Details
  • Subscription
  • Password
  • Guides & FAQ
  • Chat Support.

One.com checkout process, via WhoIsHostingThis.com
One.com checkout process, via WhoIsHostingThis.com

The feature set and functionality offered by One.com's control panel is relatively limited compared to that of the more popular cPanel, but the upside is that One.com's option is easier to use and friendlier toward those who are just getting started with website management.

Customer Support

One.com Customer Support, via WhoIsHostingThis.com
One.com Customer Support, via WhoIsHostingThis.com

One.com's award-winning customer support team is available 24/7 to help you, but what's most impressive is the number of languages spoken by the team. You can get support in any of the following languages: English, Danish, German, Dutch, Norwegian, Swedish, French, Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese.

If You Like One.com...

InMotion Hosting

BlueHost

SiteGround

Both GoDaddy and One.com are providers of full-featured, yet inexpensive web hosting packages. You can't go wrong with either vendor, but if you're looking for flexibility (especially if you are planning to upgrade to more premium hosting, such as cloud-based hosting in the future), GoDaddy might be the right fit for you. Conversely, if you just need something inexpensive and easy to use, One.com is the better choice.

BlueHost is very similar to GoDaddy, but BlueHost maintains stronger ties to WordPress than GoDaddy. If One.com doesn't quite meet your needs and you're using WordPress as your content management system (CMS), consider using BlueHost.

If robust, budget-friendly web hosting is all you care about, consider SiteGround as one of your options. Again, it is very similar to One.com, though SiteGround might be a bit more powerful in terms of what you can do with your site. This comes hand-in-hand with a steeper learning curve, though it is by no means insurmountable.

In Simple words it is cheap, fast and easy to setup. This web-host is for newbies or blogs who are just starting out. There first year is free :( but actually you have to pay 13.80$ as setup fees, but actually this is still cheap as you are getting 1 domain name and hosting for year.

Support :- Until now there support works for me, they reply with in seconds and they solved many issues regarding WordPress. So there support is fast & knowledgeable. Up-time :- For last 3 months i haven't seen any downtime.

Backups :- They offer daily backups , and you can ask them for backups files for any given day Note:- there is no option for backups with in control panel. WordPress :- They offer 1 click WordPress installation, and there support is knowledgeable about WordPress so you will face no problems. Control Panel :- There control panel is different looking from others , it features tile like options, there cPanel offers limited control as compared to other webhostings.

Setting Up :- This is the worst part :( when you signup , you have to print document then sign it and then you need to fax that document in order to get you account going. Last notes :- Best and cheap webhositng, they are big company and are around for years now.so if you are starting out new and you are short on cash then this web-hosting is best for you.

One.com is not suitable for company who needs long term website. They have unprofessional staff and not able to manage customer account. They even don't know - how to allow access to the website for specific IP.

Unprofessional company. I lost lots of time with them. Unhappy customer. Really unprofessional company.

As a small business, knowing my expenses before time is essential and with one.com you never know what you will be charges just because they have your domain and your hosting, they will charge what they want. I own a .co domain and and every year they double the costs and they demand payment 3 months ahead of the time when they are actually become due. There are no contact number for existing customers and they know darn well that for as long as you are stuck with they they can charge whatever they want. In short, I wish I never started my business with this company.

Servers Down all the time. Not a reliable service. Customer support not helpful.

Any question you ask they can't give you an answer , they can't say how long the servers are down, that is up to techniciens, but you can't contact the technicians neither to find out for how long you have no functional site. Chat Support - forget it, is not there to find a solution, is to fill the time when they are not providing what you were paid for . Features?

Yes in theory they provide all, but in real time, their systems can't handle what they would like to offer . Overall, not a professional hosting .

The downsides about one.com are:

1) one.com Only contains Linux, not windows or any other. For programmers this is NOT good at all.

2) They dont keep backups of your emails!
¨I transfer my hosting from one.com to Dotster.com and lost all my emails! so I contacted one.com, send emails and got ¨online help¨ they weren't able to help me at all!!!!

**** Be aware of this!

emails are really important, sometimes used as proofs or references. ONE.COM does NOT keep your backup or help you in any way, thats what happened to me and I had been paying them for the last 4 years! I recommend you all trying dotster.com (at least its much better than one.com) Plus I find out one.com Buys the domains from dotster.com! haha

I had a domain on one.com that I did not use. With all other hosts , such as godaddy, pair.com etc. if you want to drop a domain you just let it expire.

Not so with one.com! They auto-renewed the domain and are sending me a bill for nexts yearf for a domain I do not want. And not only the domain.

they also included a package with a lot of things I do not need, and do not want. I wrote to them about this , and specifically noted that it is 3 weeks until the domainname expires. But they still insist that I have to pay for the next year. So in short: Use a webhost that treats customers like customers, not like slaves.

Very cheap, often good deals, 24/7 support (very helpful), and a very organized dashboard that's easy to work around. Plenty of good documentation, and if there's something you can't find, just ask them! Very satisfied thus far.

Had one problem with downtime once, but they resolved it quickly. Heard other people with more traffic had more problems, but it has worked for me.

Everything seemed fine at first. A nice, fast, simple interface. There was an issue uploading via ftp as I had not transferred my domain name to them, and nor did I want to.

After dealing with one useless chat support, I got someone who knew what they were doing and they gave me an alternate ftp address to upload to. Very fast transfer - great. Then I want to check that my website was actually working before I redirected live traffic.

No option to view it in the control panel. Nor is there a URL for redirects. So back to chat support, where upon support refuses to give me a url to view my site.

Wants me to mess around with d with name servers with my other service or just out and out transfer. No amount if requesting and finally arguing, would get them to give me a simple rules to check my site. And therein us their business model, as far as I can work out, they don't want to be redirected to, they want you to transfer your domain name because when you see what they charge for renewals, that's where they really take you to the cleaners.

Asked for a refund. Have not gotten it. Avoid.

If you seriously need to have solid customer support, then you need to seriously reconsider if you choose this web hosting company. Most of the people on chat have absolutely no clue about basic questions and seem to be incapable of helping you at the most simple level. Furthermore, sometimes your website may go offline without any warning, due to 'migrating to a new server', clearly not good for any business.

They are pretty framed, and if you need any support it will be hard or sometimes even impossible to resolve problems. Several times when I needed something to be done, I started long conversations with their support receiving only short answers and it usually ends up: we don't provide that kind of service, or even worse: this cannot be done. I wish to underline that those were mostly basic request that any host could provide such as to access your email accounts via ftp (quite normal thing via cpanel) but no, at one.com they would say" you cannot do that.

We don't provide that kind of service. Pretty frustrating.

One.com is good and cheap but has a major shortcomming: Their DNS functionality and administration control panels are plain stupid. They lack the ability to add the common DNS record types TXT and SRV. This basically makes one.com incompatible with certain features of Office365 which is growing in popularity.

A domain should have a TXT "SPF" record to prevent spam abuse of your domain. If you have Office365 and want to use Lync Online then you need the SRV type DNS records.

One.com provides quite reliable uptime. I went over 4 years without any downtime during the day. Lately the site has gone down twice within a week, but I feel like it's a problem that will be fixed permanently quite soon, as they're very apologetic for it.

Their packages are very cheap, but lack space. They are not a good host if you plan to have lots of large files on your server, such as a file hosting site. They use the latest versions of everything, such as PhpMyAdmin.

You are only allowed one FTP account and one MySQL account, but both have 100% uptime and have never lost a file. You can only have one MySQL DataBase, too. The unlimited transfer is very nice, but they will take notice if you transfer more than 1mb per page view on average.

In other words, again, it's not recommended if you want to have a file hosting site. They are PHP enabled including most popular libraries, but disallow cronjobs. Overall, their pros:
- Great uptime, but currently not 100%.
- No fuss, you don't really have to worry about transfer limits or anything
- Very affordable, a .com domain for a year only runs you $50 USD.
- Live chat is extremely helpful and responsive.
- Always up to date
- Built-in site templates, blogging, mail, etc
- Very usable main site, short, easy to remember domain name

Their cons:
- No unlimited hard drive space package, and most packages have minimal space
- Some downtime recently
- One FTP account, one MySQL account, one MySQL DataBase.
- No cronjobs, and all languages except PHP are disallowed
- They seem to not have the authority to re-issue domains that expired years ago

Overall, I'd give them a 85% recommendation for business, and 95% recommendation for personal sites or portfolios.

I used one.com for my hosting basically because it was the first company I came across back when I didn't know a whole lot about this stuff. For a simple personal website or blog, this provider is fine, the control panel is quite user friendly (apart from one thing- keep reading), and setting up email is nice and easy too. Where I came into problems was when I wanted to change the DNS settings.

The DNS settings page in the control panel makes no sense, and the help page is very misleading. I also had problems installing wordpress; In phpmyadmin, one.com has locked the ability to create multiple databases. You can only run one database at a time, with multiple tables.

This could get very confusing if you were to have lets say a wordpress install, magento install, and mediawiki, eg wiki.website.com, blog.website.com and shop.website.com. All in all, one.com was fine for hosting my portfolio website while at university, but now I want a much more robust solution.

Signing up to one.com was a terrible mistake. I took up their one year hosting package for £10.81. Once I signed up, I wanted to extend the domain name for 5 years, but was told it was impossible.

They said I can extend after a year which was really bad because if Google sees that your domain has been renewed for just one year, they will not take Your Site seriously. Your site will never rank. I am hosting sites with other companies, so I decided I would simply move after the one year.

After I setup my wordpress site, it was hacked within a day. How does that even happen? I couldn't login.

When I contacted support for help in recovering the site by setting the password to the default, they told me I'd have to pay. I told them I wasn't prepared to pay because this is a service that is offered free of charge by all the companies I've ever hosted with. You'd think they'd have been more sympathetic.

They didn't give a damn. They then sent me a link to a php page that would teach me how to recover my site. Never again.

Wordpress now is available as one-click install and the One.com file manager/editor and website creator has gotten a well-deserved overhaul. One.com still lacks some features compared to many other hosts, but in my opinion their support makes up for that. Every time I've had a problem, I've used their live chat support, and each time they fixed my problem.

I even had a problem with a PHP script once, that they helped with. The control panel and tools are extremely easy to use. The price is great and I haven't experienced any downtime yet. So far I'm pretty happy.

One.com is one of the best hosting companies that I've had. You get your first year for free, you just have to pay the setup fee and you're good to go. They upgraded my hosting account from 15GB to 200GB and unlimited sites for free, that was amazing from them.

The support is very nice and they try their best to solve the problems or concerns as fast as they can. I'm on one.com since April and I haven't had any downtime or problems with them.

The service is cheap, but hosted websites are regularly down! They even acknowledge their SLA is 99%. This means your website may be down up to 87 hours per year!!

So I would recommend to avoid them for any serious website. I'm moving away, even if it takes me time and money to move the website and emails...

When I first learned about One.com's services I was a little reluctant to try it out. They offered me a domain and hosting for 25 cents for an entire year. Usually with cheaper hosting sites you don't get much in terms of tools.

Much to my surprise I wound up with the same set of tools that I would get from one of the larger hosting companies (ie. GoDaddy, 1and1). Thus far it's been a great service for me, the only downside would be that registering a 2nd domain comes at full price and is a bit of a downer.

The support isn't the best. That said, it costs dirt cheap. If you want to host a website for $1, this is the place. Excellent services and control panel. They also give you a free SSL certificate.

I started with the domain because it seemed cheap and the website clean and easy to understand. That was all fine until it came to the yearly renewal. I was sent an email to warn me of this, but unfortunately i did not get this warning and then when they sent again, i wanted to cancel my subscription, but they would not let me.

This was my email (removing hello and my name to end it... "I would like to Cancel my subscription to one.com. Regards". I don't think that i could be any more explicit!

However, more than three months on and my account is still open, ready for the next renewal so that they can send a warning email that i may or may not receive and then take more money from me. Not just that, but they get to add £10 on to the bill if you do not receive / see another email as well. Also, as part of the cost is an automatic renewal charge of £6....

which i clearly do not want! Altogether i am disgusted by the poor service, the rudeness and destain that they seem to treat customers with. It seems they don't want your service, but to catch you out so that they can make more money from you. I would Avoid one.com and search elsewhere unless you don't mind being stung!

I have been trying out many hosts and none of them suited my needs. One.com was the only web host that had excellent support that answers within 24 hours. They helped me solve problems that were occurring on my site such as slow page load which they fixed it within hours.

Uptime has been great so far and I haven't noticed any downtime yet. I recommend everyone to try this host

Thought I would give one.com a go as it was the first website I was building myself. Thought it all looked very easy until I tried to do my online shop and found that they couldn't help with that. Unlike other sites who give you the information you need.

I was told I would have to get it all myself. After a couple of weeks of being live I decided to add a facebook like button, which is in there components. As I did this it took all the other information off all my pages and as I previewed it it saved.

I then went to the live chat only to be told that although they could do a rollback for me, I would have to print a form off, sign it and then send it along with personal ID, for them to do it. I would like to know why? They have never seen personal ID or signature from me and the fact that I am logged into the website didn't seem to be enough.

Surely this leaves me open to ID fraud and a lot of wasted time and effort. This is the 4th person I have spoken to on live chat over the last couple of weeks and only one of them actually helped me. She went into the website there and then for me to do a little tweak, although it was a problem at their end not mine. Anyone wanting a website try another company.

I have been a customer at one.com for several years. The first year I experienced slow servers sometimes but this has not been a problem in recent years. It pulls down that you can only have one domain / one website in one subscription.

I wouldn't use these guys. Very unhelpful when it comes to cancelling your account. I had been away and found that because I fell out of the 30 days notice to cancel I had to pay a full years subscription for 2 domains.

They don't offer monthly subscriptions so they are more than happy to take your money even when you have been out of reach. Will never use this company again and suggest others don't too.

cheap to start with however has some issues:

terrible support. massive hike in prices after 1 year. they tend not to let you know of important issues but rather refer you to some random hidden contract term, i canceled a contract would have been nice to know it was not actually canceled till next year.

Paper invoices never arrive on time and by the time you get them they would of charged you a "late fee". Apparently web hosting can not be canceled, it has to be done 35 days before the end of the contract. They don't remind you of this.

This is pretty cool host.Free for the First Year,I hope not to get robbed after the one year!! Just wordpress - one -click installation is in sufficient, however what ever are available are quiet cool. Difficult to set up scripts.

Excellent customer care response, especially the chat. Web-builder is a
bit sluggish and may take a little while for a newbie to get acclimatised.Security excellent.an I will stick
to them as much as I can. If they are not going to overcharge me for the Hosting, hell they are cool!!

Overall, a pleasant experience so far. Letsguide.it needs to catchup a zillion,it would be great if they were
to add affiliate management. Verdict-go for it,they are genuine.

I'm disgusted by the poor service and dodgy tricks that this One.com, a Dubai-Based company is using to get customers to renew automatically the subscription. Creating an account is easy and not expensive but when it comes to stop using them, you need to cancel the auto subscription by sending an email. In my case they sent letter by post (to my old address) and their emails went to my spams box.

As their do not use the phone, their is no one to call you. After contacting them, they only write basic and standard email to remind you about the 30 days and T&Cs ! Automatic renewal is NOT clearly highlighted on their website and the process should be more straight forward ! My tip: Avoid one.COM !

Uptime has been excellent for the several sites that I have had using one.com. It isn't particularly feature rich but the ones it does have are well implemented and easy to use. If you contact support they can provide you with a link to a site that shows how to do manual installations of popular products and can also provide you with some good generators that you can paste into Your Site.

They Do not support SSL certificates which was a bit of a bummer and pretty much makes running an ecommerce business with them impractical. Support has always been good or above. They have helped me with my domain registration when I spelt it wrong and in another case, re-registered the product as I put in the the totally wrong domain name.

I'm pretty sure they don't have to do this but it is no problem for them. The hosting is dirt cheap and great value for money. Overall, my experiences thus far have been really good!

My experience with one.com has been great so far. Their support has been absolutely amazing. The thing that I really like about the company is their 24/7 live chat, something that not a lot of companies offer at this moment of time, which I actually believe is one of THE most of important sides of a good hosting company.

I've come to see that websites need 24/7 care at all times and when things go wrong at any moment of time, there should always be someone standing there ready to help you out. The prices on their domains are reasonable as well. I've been with some Dutch hosting companies and they significantly charge more and at times unreasonably when you look at the different packages they offer.

One of the things I truly can't stand is limited traffic data. I believe that sort of thing is of the past and hosting companies should not charge you extra for larger traffic data. And that's what makes One.com another great hosting company, their traffic data is unlimited!

Their up-time and speed is perfect. I have no complaints about that whatsoever. However one of the most important features, which One.com lacks, is an anonymous whois feature.

I believe that privacy is one of the most crucial things you could ask for on the internet. I've had to step off their hosting plan just for that reason only. And I really think that One.com deserves to be able to offer anonymous whois because of their other strong features.

The lack of that anonymous whois feature really creates a huge shortcoming for them and I don't think it's worth that blow. If some day One.com decides to offer anonymous whois then I would be the first one to jump over to one.com just for that reason! (And for the other reasons as well that I've mentioned in this review). So if you want excellent support, unlimited data traffic with good up-time/speed and reasonable prices.

I suggest you go for One.com. However if you find privacy to be one of your main concerns then I suggest you pick a different hosting company.

I have bought more than eight domains from one.com and have found them both efficient and reasonably priced. Not only that but I have had very little problems with downtime. Some years ago some of my (old) emails were accidentally deleted but I probably wouldn't have noticed if they hadn't told me about it.

I recently had an issue with them where there was some confusion about the purchase price of a domain. I expressed dissatisfaction with the way the matter had been handled and they immediately (within the hour) offered to provide me with the domain I wanted and a year's registration at the original price. The manner in which they dealt with this complaint was good.

Additionally, their customer service is prompt and helpful. I don't even bother looking elsewhere these days for a host.

I've been a customer for about 3 years now and I got into an altercation with One.com over my bill, so started getting annoyed at them. It seemed like I was going to fight robots cutting and pasting generic answers and being as rigid as one would expect from a big multinantional help center. I suggested a resolution to the problem that would favour both parties but oh no...

no they wouldn't accept that. They actually seemed to be more than human than me, close on the tail of a buddhist monk. Not only did they agree to their half of my suggested agreement but didnt expect anything in return from me.

Don't get me wrong I'm happy to come to ammocable arrangements but these guys are actually nice people who really understand the equation of having longterm customers through being nice. Who would have thought? I thought I was going to close my account today, but instead Im writing a positive review and staying with them!

Good company, Except they are very aggressive with subscriptions. They require you to cancel Before they send you the cancellations notice, and if you failure to cancel 35 days before the end they will bill you for the next year. My personal experience was that the Live Chat was only half useful, and I've just had someone called Dinesh say they would send round the baliffs if i didn't.

I had to call Denmark from the UK to get this sorted out, and the woman was not interested at all in how i had just be treated,to the point of being offended when i wanted to complain. Bad Customer service...i gave it a 1

You get what you pay for when it comes to service. Specified that I did not want an auto pay to renew my domain, but apparently that doesn't mean that they can't charge you. You have to go in and say that you longer want their product or they will continue to charge you the rest of your life.

Go with a better company. Google domains is great. Haven't had issues with them.
