Pair Networks Hosting
Since 1996, pair Networks has provided hosting services for businesses, educational institutions, bloggers, musicians, non-profits, and artists. With numerous high-volume customer sites, pair Networks serves billions of daily hits for customers in over 150 countries.
The pair Networks website contains a large knowledge base where you can find FAQs, a glossary, and information about your particular account type. Unlimited* real-time support is available 24/7/365 via email, as well as by phone with certain plans. Technical and customer service staff are in the same location as the datacenters.
Pair Networks offers shared, managed dedicated, and virtual private servers (VPS) hosting.
Shared hosting plans come in four package levels and a high-volume storage package.
Dedicated hosting plans are fully managed, and available in Overstock, Entry or Professional Level, or Enterprise Class.
The VPS services are all fully managed, and available in levels named VPS-1 through VPS-4.
*When hosts describe anything as “unlimited,” it is typically boundless except in cases of abuse. A user may be charged a penalty or be required to subscribe to a more robust package if they are overburdening the servers.
Pair Networks is versatile, and able to meet the hosting needs of individuals with basic sites, as well as large businesses with heavy e-commerce traffic. Pricing is available for all kinds of budgets, though if you get a basic shared hosting plan, be aware that you may miss out on phone support and space. Fortunately, you may upgrade your account at any time.

I started in 2000 with Pair networks with a personal website on a basic account. In 2008, I created my business eCommerce. I gradually evolved on a VPS, and now in 2015 I am on a dedicated server.
What about Pair after so many years? The support is top notch. The only concern appeared on the VPS because I had certainly share the machine's resources with one big website as mine, which slowed my sites in a dangerous manner.
I asked for help to the sales department and Pair offered a customized quote for a dedicated server. Now, my sites have never been so fast. Once more time, Pair support is top notch.
I've been hosting with Pair.com for 12 years and have been consistently impressed with the competence of their technical support and the reliability of their servers. Another reviewer noted that the shared hosting (which I use) is occasionally slow, and I have seen this happen, but it's quite rare. I'm considering moving my site to one of their VPS systems. I looked at some of the low priced options at other hosting companies but when I compared the fully managed options (pair provides only fully managed VPSs), Pair came out ahead on specs and price.
I started with Pair in 1998 with a little $5.95 ftp-only account. They've grown along with my own business. They're very honest, and don't try to BS people with those cheesy 'unlimited bandwidth-unlimited disk space' come-ons.
I have been hosting our corporate website at Pair Networks since January of 2000. This is 2013 so I am obviously happy. I have had a dedicated server that they manage for around 5 or 6 years now.
They are the masters of uptime as my server has gone over a year of uptime without a reboot or crash. The only downside to pair networks is their email handling. I moved that off to google apps a couple of years ago and am very happy with that,
We have been hosting multiple sites with Pair for over 10 years. Everything was working well until we had to migrate to a new server for storage space. Here is the list of challenges we faced.
Support is Reactive Instead of Proactive - Instead of advising us to move to a new server, we continued to pay $32/month for 40gbs of storage and 100gbs of bandwidth. Similar hosts will provide a VPS for just $3 more. They also shut off a bunch of sites without informing us this was going to take place.
Luckily those sites were no longer needed.
2. Overloaded servers - After threatening to move to a new host because of email outages and a slew of 500 errors, the rep told us the server was over capacity and to create more space would require too much work for them. Why did they put too many accounts on one server?
No cPanel - They use a proprietary FreeBSD setup making it impossible for us to diagnose PHP errors or apache server errors. It appears they also have no plans to move to cPanel.
4. Super Expensive - There are many cheaper hosting options available including a top-rated host called A2 Hosting that includes a cPanel license.
Not sure how Pair networks is so expensive when they don't include standard licenses. If Pair continues their ways, they will be out of business in a few years. Working with mysql databases with Pair is a headache.
Being that mysql databases are becoming the mainstay, that is not good news for them. Their tech support is very weak. They throw bandaids at solutions but can't even tell you or show you an error log.
If there is an error in the logs, they will attempt to correct the problem with configuration settings. Unfortunately, more effort needs to be applied to advising us on corrections we may need to make on our accounts or hosts. Only use Pair if you want a fully managed host and do not plan on hosting a heavy-traffic website. Because of their FreeBSD, they have to offer fully managed servers but unfortunately that removes some of the abilities to track down problems.
We have used pair for over a decade. The servers have generally been pretty responsive, except for mysql. Pair seem to overload their db servers, as we've had trouble with mysql being responsive over the years.
However, their support is terrible, as evidenced by this interaction with them today:
This is a total joke of a hosting company. They decided a CMS was out of date on one of our sites, and then completely disabled the site without notifying anyone at our company first. They then sent an email telling us to update the CMS so the domain could be re-enabled.
However, pair.com completely removed all access to the site. We cannot connect via http or ftp in any fashion. Now we are stuck moving a site to another host Asap because we can't get anyone at pair on the phone (or email) to regain access to the site to update the CMS to their specifications.
A simple request to update the CMS with a couple of days to do so, would have been the responsible and courteous thing to do. We have had this happen on another host over the years, and that is how it was (properly) handled. Unless you're ok with your host taking Your Site offline with no notice, completely removing your access and then being unresponsive to rectify the situation, stay away.
Been with Pair for 10 years, leaving shortly due to an Awol account advisor and poor, inconsistent support. Found the same server with more services for under half the price.
Great uptime and excellent support with fast replies to requests. Their private self-hosted newsgroups are a goldmine of hints and tips.
I´ve been with Pair since the beginning of time. Very stable and very good server times. I woulrecommendnd pair to anyone where stability is the #1 factor.
Pricing is a little high but you get what you pay for here in life. Big plus for people wittonses of domains as you can add unlimited amounts to each account. If you add 20 at a time they skip the setup fee.
I've used Pair for both shared and dedicated hosting for about seven years. Reliability is near-perfect: in fact, I don't recall any downtime at all in that time. Support for dedicated hosting issues is extremely quick and generally helpful. With the shared hosting, I have experienced slow and somewhat unhelpful service.
